The Charter Institute at Erskine (the Institute) is working with school leadership to ensure stability and continuity for the families and staff at Ascent Classical Academy of Fort Mill following the termination of the school’s management agreement with Ascent Classical Academies.
Since receiving notice of the termination, the Institute has been coordinating closely with school administration to minimize disruption and ensure the school remains focused on student learning. Administration, teachers, and families will be in the building on Monday for an exceptional day of teaching and learning.
“The school community has demonstrated outstanding resilience and commitment to their mission, and our goal as their authorizer is to serve as an operational partner as they transition into becoming an autonomous school,” the Institute said in a statement.
Staff members received termination letters from the management company; however, the school’s previous administration and faculty will be present when students return from spring break on Monday, April 13. Plans are in place to ensure teachers are compensated for their work. The Institute will continue to meet with staff and families in the coming days to address further questions and outline next steps.
Further, Institute staff will be on-site when students return on Monday to support administrators, teachers, and families. The Institute will temporarily assist with operations while the school works to establish a fully functioning governing board that will assume responsibility for the school’s long-term oversight.
The Institute will continue providing operational support until the school is fully and autonomously operational under its governing board.
Approximately 150 students are currently enrolled at the Fort Mill charter school, which employs about 20 teachers and administrators. The school serves grades K-9.
