A powerful story of perseverance, leadership, and educational opportunity in rural South Carolina took the spotlight Thursday night as Lowcountry Leadership Charter School (LLCS) premiered a new documentary highlighting its remarkable journey.

Lowcountry Leadership Charter School (LLCS) hosted the debut of “Choice Stories: Legacy Leaves a Wake,” the latest installment in the Choice Stories documentary series produced by the Charter Institute at Erskine. The film captures the 13-year evolution of LLCS in Meggett and offers an inside look at the realities of building and sustaining a public charter school in a rural community.
At the heart of the documentary is the leadership of Ms. Julianne Lang and the LLCS founding team, whose commitment to students and families shaped their thriving K–12 learning community. That impact is exemplified through the voices of the school’s Legacy Seniors, the first class to experience their entire educational journey at LLCS.

“This documentary follows the same group of students from kindergarten all the way to graduation, and that’s what makes it so powerful,” said Ms. Lang. “You witness their growth from young children into confident leaders. They are the first full expression of Lowcountry Leadership Charter School’s vision and a reflection of the foundation our original leadership set in place 13 years ago.”
The premiere brought together school leadership, teachers, and families, along with leaders from the local community and the Charter Institute at Erskine. Following the showing, the school hosted a panel consisting of LLCS School Leader Julianne Lang, Board Chairs John Brandon and Lindsey Davis, Founding School Leader Mache Larkin, Institute Superintendent Cameron Runyan, and Legacy Seniors Caden Johnson and Dana Cobb.

Located in Meggett, LLCS is a tuition-free public charter school that serves grades K–12. The school’s mission is to provide a safe and exceptional academic environment that fosters independent learning, strengthens character, and develops accountable leaders and community stewards through project-based experiences rooted in regional awareness.
Lowcountry Leadership Charter School is authorized by the Charter Institute at Erskine.
