COLUMBIA, SC – The Charter Institute at Erskine (Institute) Board of Directors unanimously voted Thursday, November 13, to renew the charter for Mevers School of Excellence (Mevers) for another ten years. This decision underscores the strong partnership between the Institute and Mevers, and their shared commitment to high-quality education.

Since 2017, Mevers has served students in grades K-8 in Goose Creek and surrounding communities as a tuition-free public charter school. The school’s curriculum and culture are guided by the ‘4A Model,’ which provides a balanced approach that emphasizes Academics, Arts, Athletics, and Activities. Mevers operates under the governance of the Berkeley Charter Education Association.
“These next ten years are about the Mevers Eagles soaring to new heights,” said Principal Kenneth Coles. “Our students and staff have shown what they’re capable of when given the opportunity, and now we get to build on that. I look forward to growing even stronger, trying new things, and seeing how far our school family can go together in these next ten years.”
Since 2022, Mevers has maintained a “Good” rating in its middle school’s State Report Card and has increased its elementary school’s rating from “Below Average” to “Average.”

Principal Coles’ vision for the next decade builds on the 4A Model and incorporates personalized Student Success Plans. Teachers and administrators will work one-on-one with students to set meaningful goals and provide the support needed to achieve them.
“Mevers is a great representation of the Institute’s educational philosophy,” said Institute Superintendent Cameron Runyan. “It combines strong leadership, an emphasis on academic excellence, and a core belief that children can achieve any goal through hard work and perseverance. We look forward to continuing this partnership with the Eagles for another ten years.”
