COLUMBIA, SC – The Charter Institute at Erskine (Institute) honored Veterans Day with the premiere of its documentary, Valor in Education. The film highlights veterans who have traded military service for the new mission of educating and mentoring students across South Carolina.
Valor in Education is the first documentary in the education field dedicated solely to telling veterans’ stories. It features more than ten men and women whose desire to serve did not end when they left the military. Today, they are serving again, this time in classrooms, offices, and leadership roles at Institute charter schools across the state. Each day, they are shaping young lives with the same commitment and sense of duty that guided them in uniform.
The film offers a closer look at what inspires these educators. Their journeys are different, but they are unified in purpose: to make a lasting impact on students and communities across the state.
“This film is a celebration of those who were willing to defend our freedoms and who now dedicate themselves to helping South Carolina’s children succeed,” said Institute Superintendent Cameron Runyan. “It is a privilege to honor their service, both past and present.”
Produced by the Institute’s Communications Department, Valor in Education highlights the organization’s commitment to sharing meaningful stories that honor the values and spirit of service that define America.
Each school received a personalized video featuring their staff members, which could be used for occasions like assemblies and Veterans Day celebrations.
