Charter Institute Approves Seventh Limestone Transfer School

The Charter Institute at Erskine (Institute) announced that its Board of Directors has approved the transfer of Myrtle Beach STEM Academy, marking the seventh school to transition from Limestone Charter Association to the Institute’s growing statewide portfolio.

The Board approved the transfer during its February 25 meeting. Myrtle Beach STEM Academy will open for the 2026–2027 school year, initially serving grades 6–10, with plans to expand to grades 6–12 at full enrollment.

Located in Horry County, the school will operate from its established brick-and-mortar campus at 3710 Palmetto Pointe Boulevard in Myrtle Beach. Myrtle Beach STEM Academy’s mission is to empower middle and high school students through a rigorous, hands-on curriculum centered on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. As a premier STEM-focused charter school serving students across the county, the school will provide a dynamic educational experience that blends innovation, academic excellence, and real-world skill development.

“We are incredibly excited to join the Charter Institute at Erskine and begin this next chapter for Myrtle Beach STEM Academy,” said Principal Jayson Powers. “From the very beginning, the Institute’s commitment to innovation, accountability, and student-centered excellence aligned perfectly with our vision. We chose them because we believe this partnership will strengthen our ability to deliver a rigorous, hands-on STEM education that truly prepares our students for college, careers, and beyond.”

This most recent approval follows the Board’s November 13 meeting, during which transfers were granted to Colearn Academy, Morning Star Academy, and South Carolina Construction Academy, as well as its December 11 meeting, when Entrepreneur High School, Harrisburg Global Academy, and Horse Creek Academy – Kershaw were approved.

These seven transfer schools join six previously approved pipeline schools scheduled to open in 2026–2027, bringing the total number of new schools launching under the Institute’s authorization to 13 in the 26-27 school year.

Throughout this transition period, the Institute has maintained its rigorous authorization standards to ensure each school aligns with its mission and commitment to excellence. These newly approved schools reflect the high-quality, innovative educational opportunities that continue to strengthen the Institute’s statewide impact and expand options for families across South Carolina.
