Math Success agenda

the goal: Obtain the highest math outcomes in South Carolina

The Math Success agenda is being implemented in response to the historically low math scores observed in South Carolina and across the country. Low academic achievement in mathematics is threatening students’ academic and professional futures. In every county in South Carolina, math scores drastically trail achievement in English Language Arts. According to the National Assessment of Education Statistics, schools across America are seeing historically large achievement gaps in math scores in fourth grade that only widen as students age.

The Institute strives to transform South Carolina by obtaining the highest math outcomes in the country. In this pursuit, the Institute created a global math learning community to collaborate with experts from around the globe to bring their expertise into South Carolina’s classrooms. Additionally, the Institute committed to rewarding the highest performing math teachers within its schools, reflecting the Institute’s dedication to supporting success at all levels.

Memorandum of understanding with ked network

In January of 2026, The Charter Institute at Erskine (the Institute) formed a historic international partnership with the Kunskapsskolan Network (KED), a global community of more than 100 schools across Sweden, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, India, and the Middle East. The international partnership connects the Institute to a worldwide network of innovative schools committed to personalized learning and student-centered education, while advancing a shared focus on excellence in mathematics. A focus of this exchange will be math instructional practices, resources, and strategies to ensure schools across the globe are Moving the Needle in math.

In April, KED educators and researchers from around the world will visit Institute charter school classrooms to learn alongside South Carolina educators, and Institute leaders will also engage directly with KED schools abroad. This exchange will give educators the chance to see how different school cultures affect learning outcomes, while also identifying new strategies to improve educational outcomes for students in South Carolina and in KED schools globally.

Math performance bonuses

In just one day, Institute team members visited 15 different classrooms across the state to award teachers with a Math Performance Bonus Check.

The Math Performance Bonus initiative recognizes Institute charter school teachers from across the state who met or exceeded added value growth targets of 3.5 or higher in math on SC READY during the 2024-2025 school year. The Institute created this incentive as part of the $1.75 million Success Agenda to facilitate success in math instruction.
