Celebrating Jessica Bridges: January Teacher of the Month

Jessica Bridges brings nearly two decades of experience, dedication, and adaptability to her role as a 6th Grade Math teacher at Cherokee Charter Academy. After introducing herself to students each year, she becomes simply Mrs. Bridges – a teacher whose career reflects both deep family roots in education and a strong commitment to student growth.

Education has always been a central part of Mrs. Bridges’ life. Raised in a family of educators, she felt called to teaching from an early age. After getting married, she began her career as an assistant, later earning her bachelor’s degree in education and stepping into the classroom in her early twenties.

Throughout her 18-year career, Mrs. Bridges has taught a wide range of grades and subjects. She spent her first five years in 4th grade, followed by three years in 2nd grade. She then transitioned to middle school, teaching math, science, and social studies for seven years, building a strong foundation across content areas and age levels.

After 15 years in K–12 education, Mrs. Bridges made the decision to step away from the classroom to continue her own learning. She earned a master’s degree in Education with a focus on Learning, Design, and Technology and moved into higher education as a Digital Learning Administrator and Instructional Designer at the university level.

One of her most memorable moments came during the height of the pandemic, when she balanced teaching online, completing her master’s degree, and supporting her three children as they finished high school. This period strengthened her understanding of digital learning and reshaped her approach to instruction.

Now beginning her 19th year in education, Mrs. Bridges has returned to the classroom at Cherokee Charter Academy. She brings a unique combination of traditional classroom experience and advanced expertise in instructional design, enriching her 6th-grade math instruction.

Mrs. Bridges believes all students can learn and learn best by doing. She engages students through constant communication, hands-on activities, and meaningful choices that allow them to learn and demonstrate understanding. Her classroom emphasizes a growth mindset, encouraging students to learn from mistakes and celebrate progress.

Teaching at a charter school is especially meaningful to Mrs. Bridges. She values the close relationships formed in a smaller school setting, where collaboration among teachers and strong connections with students create a supportive learning community that benefits the entire school.

Thank you, Mrs. Bridges, for your continued dedication to serving the children of South Carolina!
