Celebrating Alanna Brown: October Teacher of the Month

At Royal Live Oaks Academy (RLOA), Ms. Alanna Brown has quickly become a shining example of what it means to lead with passion, dedication, and conviction. A third-grade teacher who specializes in all core subjects, Ms. Brown brings four years of teaching experience to her classroom as she continues in her second year at RLOA.

For Ms. Brown, education is a calling rooted in family tradition. “Coming from a family that deeply values education, I was surrounded by teachers who inspired me – especially my older sister,” she shares. “I admired the way she connected with her students and made a real difference in their lives.” That early exposure to the transformative power of teaching motivated Ms. Brown to follow in her sister’s footsteps. From helping her sister prepare classroom materials as a child to shaping young minds today, her journey has come full circle.

One of the proudest moments of her career came when 79% of her students scored “Meets” or “Exceeds” on the SC Ready Mathematics test. “That achievement was a proud reflection of the hard work my students and I put in throughout the year,” Ms. Brown says. Her success is built on a clear philosophy: to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need to become positive contributors to society. She believes in creating a classroom environment where learning is engaging, meaningful, and filled with opportunities for hands-on exploration.

Ms. Brown’s approach goes beyond academics. She builds strong, trusting relationships with her students, encouraging them to reach their full potential and inspiring a genuine love for learning. “By encouraging and motivating students, I hope to inspire a love for learning and a drive to make a difference in the world,” she explains.

One of the things Ms. Brown loves most about teaching at a charter school is the sense of community. “There’s a close-knit, supportive environment here. From administrators to fellow teachers, there’s a strong sense of teamwork and encouragement that makes a real difference,” she says. “I also appreciate how student-centered the environment is. Everyone is fully committed to doing whatever it takes to help our students succeed.”

Ms. Brown credits much of her success to her paraprofessional, Cheryl Burnett. “She has poured just as much care, time, and dedication into our students as I have. Her support has made a meaningful impact on both student success and the overall classroom environment,” Ms. Brown shares.

In less than a year, Ms. Brown has already made a lasting impact on her students and her school community. With her strong dedication, innovative teaching philosophy, and passion for teaching the next generation, she is helping to shape not only young learners but also the future itself.

Thank you, Ms. Brown, for your continued dedication to serving the children of South Carolina!
