Charter Institute at Erskine (Institute) schools across the Upstate are welcoming students back for the 2025-2026 school year. This year, these schools will serve almost 3,000 students in the region, offering new opportunities for learning and growth.
Institute Schools in the Upstate include:
- Ascent Classical Academy – Fort Mill (5K-9, York County)
- Belton Preparatory Academy (5K-8, Anderson County)
- Brashier Middle College Charter High School (9-12, Greenville County)
- Calhoun Falls Charter School (6-12, Abbeville County)
- Cherokee Charter Academy (4K-10, Cherokee County)
- Greenwood Charter Academy (4K-8, Greenwood County)
- Langston Charter Middle School (6-8, Greenville County)
- Libertas Academy – Boiling Springs (4K-8, Spartanburg County)
- Thornwell Charter School (5K-12, Laurens County)

“Our Upstate families have shown time and again that they value the power of school choice and the opportunity to attend a high-quality charter school — and this year is no exception,” said Institute Chief of Staff, Christy Junkins. “Institute schools in the Upstate continue to thrive, not only growing in enrollment but also setting new standards of academic excellence. They are truly making a difference in their communities, and we’re eager to see how they continue to succeed this year.”

Statewide, the Institute now authorizes 28 schools serving approximately 30,000 students. This includes six statewide virtual schools – Cyber Academy of South Carolina, Heron Virtual Academy of South Carolina, Lowcountry Connections Academy, Odyssey Online Learning, South Carolina Connections Academy, South Carolina Virtual Charter School – which collectively enroll students from every zip code in South Carolina.
