Mrs. Kristy Benton is a 7th grade math teacher for Cyber Academy of South Carolina and has dedicated her career to educating and inspiring the next generation. She brings more than 20 years of experience, energy and passion to her virtual classroom every day.
From a young age, Mrs. Benton always knew she wanted to be a teacher. “I have always loved kids and knew from a very young age that I wanted to be a teacher,” she says. That early passion led her to pursue her Bachelor of Arts in Education at the University of South Carolina and Coastal Carolina University, graduating in 2001. She began her career teaching sixth-grade math at St. James Middle and Intermediate Schools in Myrtle Beach, SC, where she established her roots in the educational field.
In 2020, Mrs. Benton joined Cyber Academy of South Carolina, where she embraced the world of virtual education. “All of my students attend virtual school for different reasons,” she explains. “I enjoy learning who they are and finding ways to help each of them succeed in their own way.”
Mrs. Benton’s teaching philosophy centers around connection and trust. “When it comes to teaching, your relationships with your students are most important,” she says. “If you respect them, listen to them, show them you care, and have fun with them, students will do the same with you in return.” This approach has helped her foster a positive and encouraging environment where students feel motivated to grow and succeed.
When asked what one of the most rewarding parts of her career was, she said, “My achievements come from my students and my team. I get to spend my days with some incredible people.” Whether it’s watching her students overcome challenges or collaborating with fellow educators, Mrs. Benton finds joy in every aspect of her profession.
Outside the classroom, Mrs. Benton is a proud Myrtle Beach native and a dedicated mother. Married to her husband, Ashley, since 2002, they are parents to two daughters, Kinsley and Konner, as well as three sweet Maltese pups: Lily, Suzie, and Charlee. In her free time, Mrs. Benton enjoys traveling, reading, shopping, spending time with loved ones, and cheering on the Gamecocks.
