CAMDEN, SC – Montessori School of Camden parent Mr. Christopher Gordon was named the 2024 Lynn Higgins Volunteer of the Year at the Charter Institute at Erskine’s Awards Banquet on Thursday night.

Gordon was nominated for this statewide award by his school community. Head of School Ms. Deb Cyrier shares that Gordon spent a couple of months on the MSC Board before realizing that his time and talents were better spent supporting the “in-the-trenches” work of the day-to-day operations. Gordon completes maintenance jobs around campus, provides donations, and makes sure that the MSC campus is safe and secure.

“He is showing his son and many other students on campus what it truly means to have a mindset of serving others for the greater good,” said Cyrier.

The Institute’s Volunteer of the Year award was named to honor Ms. Lynn Higgins, a late grandparent of a student at Clear Dot Charter School. Higgins was a driving force behind the formation of a volunteer program at Clear Dot and her legacy is defined by her kind, generous, and selfless spirit.

Gordon was recognized with a certificate, an award, and a $250 donation in honor of Ms. Higgins.

“Every dollar that goes toward someone doing something that a volunteer could do is money that could’ve gone to the kids,” said Gordon. “No matter what you do to help the school out, it ultimately helps out the children and that’s what we’re all here for.”

The Montessori School of Camden is a K-8 public charter school that offers a carefully developed and well-researched Montessori style of education. MSC is authorized through the Charter Institute at Erskine and is a licensed ABC QUALITY childcare provider for infants to 4K.
