ROLE OF THE SCHOOL NURSE

School nurses are vital to the educational process and academic growth of all students. They ensure the safety and well-being of South Carolina’s children by eliminating health related barriers to learning. Additionally, school nurses are an integral member of the school’s interdisciplinary team and serves as a liaison for children, their families, school personnel, community, and healthcare providers. Nurses help to facilitate life-long achievement in students by promoting well-being, self-management, self-advocacy, and academic success. In this pivotal role, nurses support and promote a healthier and safe school environment. School nursing is a specialized and collaborative practice that encompasses public health and pediatric nursing.
