Charter Institute Schools Demonstrate Growth on 2024 Report Cards

COLUMBIA, SC – Charter Institute at Erskine (Institute) schools show signs of growth in recently released academic data from the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE).

The data, released Tuesday, represents each school’s performance during the 2023-2024 school year.

“From Title I schools in rural South Carolina, to statewide virtual schools that serve students in nearly every zip code, Institute schools are seeing growth across the board,” said Institute Superintendent Cameron Runyan. “Charter schools are constantly evolving, changing, and improving – that’s the nature of the innovative spirit upon which they were founded. This data reinforces the progress we’ve made and provides a clear roadmap for the future.”

In addition to outperforming their local districts for the last four years, Brashier Middle College Charter High School (Greenville County) and Gray Collegiate Academy (Lexington County) achieved 100% graduation rates. This accomplishment places them among only four charter schools and ten schools statewide to reach this milestone.

Odyssey Online Learning, a virtual, statewide high school, increased its graduation rate from 63.5 percent in 2022 to 82 percent in 2024, a significant 29.2 percent increase over just two academic years.

“Institute leadership is excited to celebrate these achievements with our school leaders and teachers. These successes are the product of the hard work of many people. We see opportunities for continuing and we will continue to work with and support our school leaders and teachers to expand their academic excellence,” said Superintendent Runyan.
