GAFFNEY, SC – Cherokee Charter Academy has been chosen to participate in the South Carolina CTE Immersive Learning Academy. This grant from the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) was awarded to thirty schools in the state.

With this program, students can learn on a fully immersive, Virtual Reality (VR) platform called VXRLabs. This software uses VR to host global field trips, offer simulators for learning, tutor students through the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) figures, and more.

Cherokee will be using this innovative program to participate in VR Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses. This provides an opportunity for hands-on learning and experience in the healthcare, trades, technology, and life sciences fields.  This, in turn, will allow Cherokee to continue to work toward their goal of producing career-ready students upon graduation.

“We’re thrilled about this opportunity and grateful that the South Carolina Department of Education is willing to fund this groundbreaking technology for the benefit of our students,” said Dr. Lindsay Walker, Elementary Principal at Cherokee. “It’s one thing to read books about the material or watch videos. It’s another to be right there, virtually, in the room tending to a patient or designing a robot. This opportunity is unmatched.”

The program will be tailored to meet Cherokee’s specific needs, and it will be offered to students in middle and high school.

Cherokee students are provided a number of exciting opportunities. Pictured is the 4-H Club visiting the South Carolina State House.

Cherokee’s high school also just recently learned that they are recipients of SCDE funding for another innovative program – John Maxwell’s iLead Curriculum for Leadership Development. This curriculum is made up of value-based Transformation Tables that are used to develop students’ values and leadership skills.
