CLINTON, SC – Thornwell Charter School (Thornwell) earned numerous awards in recognition of their outstanding academic performance in the 2022-2023 school year at the Charter Institute at Erskine’s Academic Showcase on Friday, November 3, 2023.
Thornwell’s Middle School earned a Silver School of Distinction award for outperforming the local school district and demonstrating Average growth in English Language Arts and Mathematics in the 2022-2023 school year.
Thornwell’s Elementary School also received recognition from the Institute as a Palmetto Silver School, awarded by the South Carolina Department of Education.
Both programs have increased the percent of students Meeting or Exceeding expectations in English Language Arts.
“A big piece of our success is our behavioral model. We have devoted staff time and money into teaching to behaviors and teaching to social skills, and that has played an important role in our success,” said Principal, Ms. Melissa Moore.
At the showcase, charter schools from around the state were celebrated for their academic achievement and outstanding growth. Thornwell was one of 14 schools recognized at the event and was asked to present their strategies for academic growth with their peers.
