The CARES Act was implemented to provide emergency relief funds to address the impact COVID-19 has, and continues to have, on elementary and secondary education schools in South Carolina.
On December 27, 2020, the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSA) was signed into law. The US Department of Education is providing an additional $54.3 billion for the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER II Fund). These funds have been allocated for the purpose of providing local educational agencies (LEAs) with emergency relief funds to address the impact that COVID-19 has had, and continues to have, on elementary and secondary schools.
Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSA)
On March 11, 2021, the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) was signed into law. The US Department of Education is providing an additional $121.9 billion for the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER III Fund). These funds have been allocated for the purpose of providing local educational agencies (LEAs) with emergency relief funds to address the impact that COVID-19 has had, and continues to have, on elementary and secondary schools across the nation. Of the funds allocated, 20% must be set aside by each site to address learning loss. In addition, schools must gain input from stakeholders in developing the plan to utilize the funds. In order to be eligible for funding, schools must submit information for the Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan.
